The completion of any construction project is always an exciting time, and that was certainly the case last week when Tandem Construction participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the company’s latest project, a four-story, 17,000-square-foot addition to the Union League Boys & Girls Club One building in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. More than 150 people, including children from Club One, gathered in the new facility’s two-story gymnasium to celebrate the rededication.
Also on hand was special guest of honor Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, signifying the importance of this project to the Pilsen community. During his remarks, Mayor Emanuel stated, “Nearly 100 years since it first opened, Club One has served over 100,000 young people. This new addition will ensure that the Union League Boys and Girls Club will be a pillar of progress here in Pilsen for the next 100 years.”
The celebration came just 10 months after Tandem broke ground on the annex. Michael Chioros, chairman of the Union League Boys & Girls Club renovation project, served as master of ceremonies for the ribbon cutting, and offered a special thank you to the Tandem team for going above and beyond expectations during the project.
Congratulations to Tandem for its role in a building that will help serve the needs of children for years to come! Next up for Tandem is the second phase of this project – remodeling the original 19th century Club One building, and ultimately opening the walls between the new annex and original building to create one fully updated and functional space. Check back for updates on the project, which should be fully complete next spring.
